BCS Predictions: 2010 LSU Tigers

It hasn’t taken long for LSU Tiger Nation to get over head coach Les Miles’ 2007 national championship season in BCS college football odds for which the “Mad Hatter” made several gutsy calls during that campaign to get his Tigers over the top in some real nail biters. Last year Miles did much to destroy his credibility after LSU slipped to 9-4 in college football predictions and had an anemic offense that averaged just 25 points per game. Coming on the heels of an 8-5 season in 2008 and with back-to-back losses to former LSU coach Nick Saban and Alabama along with the poor clock management in a loss to Ole Miss last year, it’s easy to see why online sportsbooks think that Miles may have the hottest seat in the Southeastern Conference.

In fact, LSU football is just 8-8 straight up and 5-10-1 against the college football betting spread in SEC play the past 2 years. It is their pure raw talent that keeps LSU as a 25-1 longshot at online sportsbooks in 2011 BCS odds to win the title. LSU is loaded with plenty of outstanding recruits as Miles consistently hauls in top 10 classes. The problem is that there is mounting evidence based on the results that the talent is not being fully developed. LSU will have plenty of new faces on both sides of the line with just 6 starters returning on offense led by junior quarterback Jordan Jefferson and just 4 starters back on defense.

Jefferson passed for 2,166 yards and 17 touchdowns last year. His top receiver and the top 2 running backs do not return for 2010. The defense allowed 16 points per game last year, which was an improvement and will need to post similar numbers this year. LSU has not been profitable against the board in college football odds for the past 4 seasons and will struggle this year with a brutal schedule that includes road games at Florida, Auburn, and Arkansas, and a home game against Alabama with a neutral site opener against up and coming North Carolina.
